The Feldenkrais Method (Dr M. Feldenkrais 1904-1984) is a unique educational system centred around movement, designed to develop your full potential physically, creatively and intellectually and release stress, tension and pain by expanding and increasing your body and mind awareness.

The mind and body are considered one whole and any emotional state or stress is therefore expressed within the body. Changing the body pattern re-educates the body and nervous system to respond differently to events that cause stress.

Using observation and gentle non-invasive touch - ideal for anyone - the practitioner investigates the way your particular personal concerns are related to your habits of movement and makes gentle adjustments to release any blocks and open the door to new possibilities.

Shiatsu (Japanese from shi, meaning finger, and atsu, meaning pressure) is a traditional Japanese therapy dating back to the early 1900s and a manual massage with its roots in Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Shiatsu practitioners apply pressure to acupuncture pressure points with their palms, fingers, elbows and knees and perform manipulative and rotational techniques to stretch and mobilize the whole body.

It is believed that general wellbeing derives from the harmonious flow of vital energy (chi), which passes through the body’s meridians (or energy channels). In order to improve the natural flow of energy and boost the immune system - therefore helping to ward off illness - pressure is applied to blockages along the meridians. The channels of chi are also thought to be responsible for communication and movement in the body as well as regulation of the organs. Shiatsu is a holistic approach to treating the individual as a whole and in their true uniqueness.

5 Vibrations 'Everything in the universe moves according to five vibrations'

The ancient Taoists lived amongst the elements and followed the cycle of the seasons. They observed, learned and knew instinctively that their internal nature followed the same patterns.

All natural phenomena can be seen as one of the five manifestations or variations of universal energy, five different nuances. Thus, everything "echoes" one of the five energetic frequencies: WOOD, FIRE, EARTH, METAL and WATER.

If we think of the seasons and how nature changes with them, we can link this to the way energy changes within the body and mind:

In springtime we see an explosion of green caused by the rebirth of plants, which display the energetic vibration of WOOD. In the human being, this vibration shows itself in anger and controls the efficiency of the joints.
In summer, the heat and intense light express the energy vibration FIRE, which in the human being, controls blood circulation and is expressed through joy.
In late summer, the yellow colour of the wheat fields point out the EARTH energy that represents the changing of seasons. Like every period of change, it is filled with thoughts and reflections, which can lead to the accumulation of liquids in the body.
The autumn leads the body and psyche to look inside. Its element is METAL. In man it controls the brightness and moistening of the skin, breathing and melancholy.
The cold winter represents WATER and controls our fears, our sense of hearing and the skeleton.

The Five Vibrations system includes special movements and techniques from ancient oriental methods: Pressure (shiatsu), stretching and mobilization (Thai and Korean massage), cupping, tapping, percussions and muscle rolling (tuina Chinese massage), vibrations, kneading and frictions (ayurvedic massage).

This method consists in an evaluation of the energetic vibrations in need of treatment and a cycle of five treatments: each one treating a single vibration with the use of essential oils, music and massage to re-establish the patient's balance. Each treatment is completely different from the others as it works on a different Energy Frequency. The patient is also required to some StretQIng exercises (QI means life-energy in Chinese, so stretQIng means stretching the QI) to maintain energy balance.

"Everything we cannot find in ourselves, we can look for in the Tao. But all we will find in the Tao is the way back to our inner self"

When talking about hypnosis one often thinks of it as an experience in which one person has control cover another’s will. This partial vision is distorted and as well as generating mistrust, prevents one from understanding the complexity of the experience and its potential. We must eliminate the myth that during hypnosis a subject loses control, it is in fact quite the opposite, hypnosis amplifies:

• sensation
• perception
• emotion
• ability
• memory

Hypnosis is a very natural human experience, touching on everyday mental states, from that of being awake and the reality that is shared in daily life, to many other alternative mental states.

The hypnotic trance used in therapy and counselling is attained through close work with the subject, through which they are guided towards focusing their attention closely and reducing the power of self-surveillance and criticism.

During hypnosis the subject is extremely relaxed and has their eyes closed (they appear to be sleeping) but in certain respects they are more vigil than when they are awake. It is like being immersed in a good book or film; we don’t lose ‘consciousness’ of what is happening around us, but our attention is focused on something specific and we are less aware of external stimulus. Our mind – for reasons still unknown, but certainly partly based on some emotional dynamics – prefers to focus its attention on the relationship taking place with the hypnotist. To some extent, privileged hearing is granted to the practitioner and close attention is paid to their suggestions, however, the subject retains full liberty to act or not upon their advice.

International scientific research and professional practice have widely demonstrated that hypnosis can boast very successful results in:

• reducing stress
• overcoming anxiety and fear
• coping with pain, depression, sickness and trauma
• reducing gastro-intestinal, dermatological and alimentary disturbances
• aiding convalescence, rehabilitation and learning
• facing medical and dentistry procedures
• coping with maternity and labour
• improving interpersonal relations
• stopping smoking

You can discuss your own specific case with your personal practitioner and discuss how hypnosis can help you improve performance, peace of mind and wellbeing.
